It seems that the sign ups have more or less dropped off, and some of you were beginning to wonder if that post was just a joke or something.

It wasn’t.  This is dead serious stuff here.

We had a lot of people sign up, so the judges looked at that list and said, “if only there were some way that we would only have to read half of those writers each week.”  Also, we really wanted everyone to get a punctuation mark, not just Gilman.  With that goal in mind, I give you the conference system!

The Interrobang Conference

The Ampersand Conference

You will be writing against the same 8 competitors in your conference throughout the 12-challenge regular season.  The judges will rotate between conferences so you’ll have equal opportunity to get irritated with every one of us.  (Unrelated side note: Kelly is now a judge).  The medal system will be used throughout as it has in most other PWTP seasons.  Each week will have one gold, two silver and two bronze medals awarded in each conference (unless the other judges think that should be different, I’ll admit I didn’t check this part out with them).

At the end of the regular season, the top scorer in each conference gets a bye to the semifinals, and the 2nd and 3rd highest scorers from each conference will meet in the quarterfinals.

I believe that’s everything we decided.

This season we’re going to work off of song lyrics or quotations as our inspiration for each challenge.  Since this is the first one, here’s your prompt.

Let’s start at the very beginning
A very good place to start
When you read you begin with A-B-C
When you sing you begin with do-re-mi
Word limit:  This post is 318 words long at this point, so let’s make that the limit.

Due Date:  Thursday, November 13 at 8 PM Central.  Usually compiling, judging, and post-writing get done late that same night.  If that is not the case, I will try to let people know.

Judging:  This week, DK and DG are judging Interrobang.  Kelly and Christina are judging Ampersand.

How to Submit: Send your entry to, and to facilitate the gathering of the entries, please include the name of your conference in the subject line.

What if I ignore those clear instructions and submit nothing?: You wouldn’t dare.

If you do dare, you get a zero the first time and -2 medal points each time after that.
