WHY, if you didn’t want Roxanne out…did you both vote for Roxanne? I swear I was reading the forum, you hadn’t even discussed voting for her.
September 29, 2015 at 1:51 pm
Inkarnit
Roxanne going out was fine. But we wanted Novak in on it. He renigged. So you could have forced a tie which Roxanne would have broken to kill Novak putting him up for elimination now.

But he said he’d be nice to me…

Nope. You want to take ZG. Even I would have to vote for you over ZG. But can you go against Annette and win? Myself?

Other than Novak stepping up and making a vote, I don’t see a way out of him deciding the final 2.
September 29, 2015 at 1:58 pm
ZG
Options seem limited here…
I could vote Inkarnit or nettie. Novak could keep his word. Nettie could recuse herself and get pick the one who goes to the final with her?
I could vote Inkarnit or nettie. Novak could change his mind. Nettie could vote the one who goes to three…or force a tie and pick who goes? Or abstain and let novak pick?
September 29, 2015 at 1:59 pm
ZG
I like nettie’s position.
September 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm

Options are very limited indeed. It comes down to Novak choosing which of the final 3 to take. The only choice we have now is which two to make him choose from.
September 29, 2015 at 2:04 pm
Inkarnit
Even a tie situation doesn’t help us. 3 way tie then one of us breaks the tie to save ourselves (Annette likely). Annette would be up with whichever other one of us. Still comes down to Novak choosing.

September 29, 2015 at 2:14 pm

We’re just delaying the inevitable.
ZG, you won’t beat Novak in a vote and you kinda pooched that last one. Can’t let him coast to an easy win.

ZG
I pooched it?
September 29, 2015 at 2:15 pm

Here’s what I hope… Novak keeps his word. Nettie gets to pick next round. If he doesn’t, well, not much I can do, but maybe the jury doesn’t quite reward him for it. With two votes on Inkarnit. Nettie is free to pick next round.

ZG is a good guy. Inkarnit has worked awfully hard.
ZG was never a Night Owl. Inkarnit betrayed the Night Owls.
Me casting a vote for one or the other would just be a foolish play, so I really can’t do that and respect myself in the morning, but I haven’t played things out in my head for next round yet.
September 29, 2015 at 2:37 pm
Inkarnit
I’m assuming once Annette votes we can assume you as a non-vote and proceed? We can finish this game.
September 29, 2015 at 2:43 pm
ZG
Do what you must, nettie. I think you or inkarnit would have my vote here.
September 29, 2015 at 2:45 pm

This would suggest that I am in a no-win position. If I vote with you against Inkarnit, I will likely be out by your and Annette’s hand next round. I’d love to vote with you, but that’s just a fools’ errand.
If I don’t vote with you, I’ve lost your vote.
Le sigh.

September 29, 2015 at 2:47 pm
mbnovak
I honestly haven’t thought it through. Give me a few minutes to play it over, and I’ll get back to you.
September 29, 2015 at 2:49 pm
Inkarnit
Him “not having thought it through” is dishonest. You know he had it all planned out and even given rankings. “OK, whatever happens I get to pick. I’d prefer ZG, but if he’s unavailable I’ll take Annette” is probably along the lines of his thought process. I don’t believe for a second that he hasn’t thought it through yet.
September 29, 2015 at 2:55 pm
mbnovak
It’s not dishonest. I honestly hadn’t given it any thought. I didn’t have a concrete plan for my flip on Roxanne at 5, but when you gave it to me, I took it. Getting out of voting here at 4 came a quite a surprise. (You must admit, the vote at 5 was unexpected… no way I could have planned for that).
That said, I have now thought it through. ZG’s commentary indicating he wouldn’t vote for me is frightful. Frightful enough that it makes me think he’s not the only one with that thought process. So having him sit next to me take off at least one of those such voters, but also gives one of them a very loud voice to be considered in the final.
Meanwhile, you and I played a pretty tight game throughout, working with the alliance, surviving and avoiding when need be, influencing where appropriate, etc. So next to you, I might compare as “slightly ahead” whereas I don’t know how I’d really look next to ZG. I’d probably come down on the side of taking him over you.
That said, I will absolutely take Inkarnit to the final if he’s still around.
September 29, 2015 at 2:59 pm
Inkarnit
This is mostly true. I agree that you are probably viewed as slightly ahead of me. But I don’t believe you would take me to the final 2 to find out. I think you are lying once again to make Annette vote me out so you can take ZG.
September 29, 2015 at 3:04 pm
mbnovak
No, I’m really not. I even know what my final argument would be against you (well, I have it down to two options).
It’s hardly convincing Annette to vote you when I tell her I’m probably preferring either of the alternatives.
September 29, 2015 at 3:08 pm
Inkarnit
Alright… I would like to see how that plays out. So Annette he says he would take either ZG or myself ahead of you. That kinda blows for you if he’s telling the truth. Might as well give yourself a shot and make it a choice between you and me. I think he’ll take you.
September 29, 2015 at 3:10 pm

So I made some moves. I stabbed some backs. I broke some promises. But I also was a threat who made it through, instead of being not-so-much-a-threat, like Inkarnit.
I was the first of the Night Owls actively targeted, in the AMR vote, and it seemed my game was not going to be long. So I made a move there to give the Night Owls new life and bring in a Non-Night Owl target for the next day. I then went into a quiet day, where I avoided using my influences, in order to save them, and also to take some of the heat off of my back, where it had been. I gave something to the team early, and the team gave back.
In the last days I used influence effectively (Nibs’ elimination), talked people out of voting me (DG’s elimination), and avoided being in power when death was coming for me with conviction (Roxanne’s elimination). So I think I played it right. I took the reigns on the last days, and though I was a huge target, I was able to outlast, despite being eligible for assassination until Roxanne’s elimination.
It is also true that the odds are good that you, Ms. or Mr. Member of the Jury, lost the game because of Inkarnit. I’m at the end instead of Roxanne or Annette or Nibs or many others because Inkarnit made self-serving, short-sighted mistakes that I was able to capitalize on. I mean, he was the one who made my play possible on the Roxanne elimination. He was the one who set up the DG elimination and didn’t follow through or put a vote on me (and made us wait, and wait, and …). He was the first one to really turn on the Night Owls. His was betrayal and chaos without purpose. Mine was at least gamesmanship. Stabby, stabby gamesmanship, it’s true… but at least it had some sense to it.
Or, to put it more succinctly, in the words of the very wise DPWY, writing about that fact that we don’t want Inkarnit to win…
“Because c’mon.”
September 29, 2015 at 4:49 pm
Inkarnit
Well that was a much more riveting game than last time indeed! I’m glad to be sitting here at the final two again and I hope I can convince you to vote for me as the winner. Novak certainly played a great cutthroat game in the second half that deserves to have him up here as well. I think he made a mistake in taking me to the final two. I hope you’ll read this to the end. I apologize for the length.
I was dealt card number 15, Commodus. I was hoping for a high card so I could play a much different game than last time. I suppose 15 is higher than 16 but… meh. As any of you that held a high card can attest to, it is extremely difficult to have any sway whatsoever with such a low card. In this game, there were only 3 people with lower cards than myself. AMR, Caftermath, and nibbish. AMR and Caftermath went way too early for me to do anything with them, but I effectively used nibbish to dismantle the Night Owls alliance (or Sinister Seven as I called it). That was my one big play and I used it when I had to for maximum effect. Had I gone along with the Night Owls, I would have been turned on eventually. I saw who I was allied with and saw the writing on the wall. I could still have gone far, but not this far.
My nibbish influence wasn’t my only play though. I started the game off by accepting spooky’s offer to influence him. I knew I was only going to get a couple of these in the game so I took it right away to direct the vote somewhere other than me. I picked sherrymac from the start and she was first to go. After that, I got in with the majority alliance, knowing that with my card I was going to need some friends for a bit. I voted along with the alliance for a few forums until ZG influenced me but then stuck with the group. I feel like I did a pretty good job helping to steer each vote and/or convince people to drag in the next unwilling victim.
After the nibbish play, I was able to let todahshy take on the villain role for a bit, taking a little heat off of me which was sorely needed at this point. Spooky had declared a blood feud and drawn a lot of negativity my direction. This succeeded in that todahshy became the overwhelming majority target. Still I was in a position where I had no real allies and needed to be very careful to avoid an elimination.
In forum 10, I used the wine to force Roxanne’s hand. I made the decision pretty much on my own. A couple people were interested in the idea but there was no consensus because I really had no real allies. I courted a few different groups to maintain good will but never truly counted myself as one of them. They clearly saw me as the outsider at this point. By serving Roxanne the wine and eliminating me as one of her choices, she chose DG. This also painted her as a big threat with her high card number and wine for later elimination. I argued to her that giving her the wine helped her, but since she was never around quick enough to use it to maximum effect I thought it a good person to hold it. I did delay on the forum 10 vote until the end of the day along with ZG and Annette. Everyone was trying to stay out of power. I wanted to hear from ZG before casting my vote. I made the smart move and stayed out of power, knowing I was a huge target at this point with no allies.
I knew when forum 11 started that I was going to be influenced by Novak. I wanted him to get that out of the way now so he couldn’t use it later. I did not expect to be influenced into voting for nibbish though. I set out to pave the way for myself by laying out potential paths to victory for different people whereas Novak played a great late game by outright lying and having people believe him. I understood the game and the different possible paths and used that information to direct the flow. It was the only thing I could do at this point. Roxanne bought what he was selling and he immediately made her pay for it. Had Annette and I not voted at the same time by accident, Novak would have forced ZG into the vote for her and Novak would have been the next to go. But we failed in that timing. I then tried to lay out to ZG why he should force a Novak tie but he apparently didn’t see it or understand it in time.
In the end, it took some smooth talking to convince Annette to eliminate ZG instead of me and then for Novak to take me to the end rather than Annette. Novak didn’t have to sweat very much the last few forums, and there is something to say for that. But I think I played the more difficult path to the end and deserve to walk away the winner. I made plays early. I made plays without deferring to everyone else first. I made bolder plays. I played the stronger early game and had to fight for the end game. He played the stronger middle game. We both played the perfect game for our situations.
