Woo! We got a wolf!
I’m in early today to make up for being late yesterday.
June 4, 2013 at 9:51 am
Grey
I’m not sure how I feel about going on with the wolf taking the wind out of my sails with that kill.
As you wish, William. As you wish…

That was fun. I completely flaked out all day yesterday only to swoop in at the last second and vote out a wolf.

That was quite awesome. Also, I’m not dead, so that’s nice. Thanks!

DG was doing this weird thing where he was so sure of your innocence. Then he proclaimed that he wouldn’t change his vote in the tie breaker. I don’t think he’s ever screamed “I’m a wolf!” so loudly, and that’s saying something.
June 4, 2013 at 10:18 am
kg2005
Because he often literally yells “I’m a wolf”. I was trying to make a joke if that wasn’t clear.
What I’m trying to say is that’s the first time I’ve ever noticed uncalculated wolfiness from DG.

mbnovak
For what it’s worth, I think this pretty much exonerates you. I mean, it is possible that it was a brilliant freaking wolf move, and you bought yourself some credit, but… I’m gonna say you’re clean.
In fact, I kind of doubt any wolves were in on the vote for DG. My list of suspects is pretty much, in no particular order:
Colin
Melissa

Grey
This could be the wolfiest thing you’ve ever said.

kg2005
Let’s not go that far, Grey. Though I haven’t ruled out Novak either.
June 4, 2013 at 10:43 am
mbnovak
Yeah, naturally, I’m not ruled out for anyone but myself.
But seriously, it is unlikely a wolf puts a vote on DG, especially with plenty of cover to vote for me. And they don’t leave it on DG once there’s a tie in the overtime. There’s plenty of reason to move the vote, keep a wolf alive, etc. I had 4 on me and no one jumped, which tells me the other wolf was either not around or already had a vote on me. That leaves those 3 candidates.
June 4, 2013 at 10:48 am
kg2005
I agree that it’s probably one of those three or you. It’s nice to be able to eliminate different groupings trying to obfuscate themselves since there’s only one left.
June 4, 2013 at 10:51 am
mbnovak
Also, meat was actually around at the end last night (despite earlier indicating he’d be leaving), and didn’t put a vote down on either DG or myself. I think if he’s a wolf he would have switched to me. He’s way down the list for me after Melissa and Grey.

Quick rundown.
bhiggum – Could have taken down Novak, didn’t. I just don’t see a great reason for that to happen if he’s a wolf.
Grey – No read on him. He’s in my top two.
mbnovak – Would be quite the duo. Leaning towards it not being him right now. Especially since he could have rallied against Melissa, but chose to go after DG instead. Perfectly capable of this, but for a couple of other reasons I don’t think it’s him.
meat – Do not think it’s meat. Specifically for the “interesting…” comment he left for me last night. He’s right, it was interesting, but if he was a wolf, he just saw me vote out the other wolf, so probably not that interesting to him.
MelissaD – A subset of the last group of wolves as a wolf again? My money says: maybe. In my top two.
The Reverend – I often wonder about how much rookie wolves get coached, but in the past DG has let his noobs play. Especially with the late hop on, I don’t think it’s the Rev.

It seems weird how few people there are on day 2, huh?
June 4, 2013 at 11:19 am

Indeed. If it is Melissa or Grey it will end up being the most straightforward game that’s been played since… ever?

Yeah. I’m very much ok with that.
June 4, 2013 at 11:20 am

I mostly like your list, kg.
I’m curious about Grey and The Rev first, then meat and novak, then kg and melissa.
I don’t see nearly as much wolfy about melissa as novak and kg do, which makes me wonder if I’m missing something.
I think Grey and Rev probably gave us the least info to work with for today, which is why I’m most curious about them.

Vote Grey
Because he’s one of my top 2 candidates, and that unclosed bold tag and not jumping back in at all last night sit poorly with me.
June 4, 2013 at 11:47 am
bhiggum
You think he’s playing the disinterested wolf card? I remember him doing that before- I gave him a pass that time because I couldn’t see a wolf being that laid-back and quiet.
June 4, 2013 at 11:51 am
mbnovak
Given that I think KG is clean, and I know I am, it’s pretty much a cinch that whoever is the last wolf is playing the “disinterested” card… not a lot of chatter from anyone else.
Last night he put down the vote on me, had an excuse about using his phone, and just left it there. He had an unclosed bold tag which “proved” how bad it was posting on the phone. It didn’t sit well with me. I could be reading into something that was nothing, but it just smelled funny to me.
June 4, 2013 at 11:59 am

Without some serious wolf-hunting or a seer claim from Grey, I think that’s where my vote is going in a couple hours.

One down. One to go.
Also, the more I think about it, the more Meat’s comment about the Reverend possibly being the Seer makes sense to me. For what that’s worth.

I’m gone for about 45 minutes or so. I’m not too worried about it.
At a little after 3pm Central I’ll be gone for the rest of the day. It’s the only time (even if we go the max) that I won’t be around at the end. However, I’ll have two flavor texts ready to be copied in and will do my damnedest to get it posted as soon as I can after the deadline.
What I need is for someone to update voting every hour on the hour; more if necessary, and less if nothing’s changing. Hopefully overtime won’t be necessary, but if it is, you know how it works.
For safety, I may talk to DG and see if he can post flavor text at the end in case I can’t get away from what I’m doing.

Novak your reasoning for having me on top of your list is that I wasn’t around last night? I made it pretty clear where I was and what I was doing, and that I wouldn’t be available for the end of the night. I liked my vote, and you were wolfy in my opinion yesterday. I still think you are as you are going pretty aggressively on me for early day two. I think the wolf needs a villager kill today and if you can work some suspicion up on me (which you’re doing well at so far) than you have an easy kill.
Villager Novak likes to see someone come and defend themselves before going for the kill. Wolf Novak just wants the easy kill.
I can’t argue that one couldn’t find suspicion in my play yesterday, but taking it this far this early in the day isn’t a good play for a villager. A good villager play is to ask for reasoning or explanation. Novak you’re a pretty good player at this game and I don’t see you being this aggressive as a villager.
vote novak
p.s. html from a phone while on a treadmill is wicked hard. it took me over five minutes to write that post.
June 4, 2013 at 12:53 pm
mbnovak
Knowing that I’m clean, I figure it’s got to be someone who was not on DG last night. There is absolutely 0 reason for a fellow wolf to let DG die there. That doesn’t mean it’s you, but it puts you on the list.
I still think Melissa feels very wolfy too. Her game seems very similar to the first time she played, and she was a wolf there. I don’t have much comparison for her beyond that though, so… tough to read.
I don’t mean to be pushing you exclusively over her, but I do mean to suggest that my list has the two of you at the tip top, meat way down, and higgs way down after that.

Grey and Novak’s sparring is interesting, but I think it’s likely two villagers picking nits.
Kg, it was an interesting play. Bold, nay crazy bold, for a wolf, or a crazy good read. I’m not sure which.

What would you like to hear from me? I’m on lunch but heading back into training here in a few minutes. I’ll try to answer your questions later.
The Reverends comment on Novak was him joking around. He didn’t realize it was a faux pas to insinuate we were colluding. He is now aware. I wouldn’t read anything into that except that he’s a trickster. He’s like that in every game we play and takes pride in it. Also, since he never answered it, I will: He is not a noob to Werewolf.

I think this holds for kg, too- as the vote switch from novak to DG in overtime, he’s cleared his name for now. I’m not ruling it out as a giant brass wolf-balls ploy, but with only two wolves, I don’t see him pulling an early sacrifice.
June 4, 2013 at 4:15 pm
mbnovak
Exactly. He’s the cleanest there is right now to me. If we get to the last day and he’s still around, we’ll talk about it. But for today, he’s a terrible lynching.

How is this a giant brass balls play? If I were a wolf and I saw my fellow wolf going down I would certainly jump on that train to clear myself.
June 4, 2013 at 5:42 pm

DG and novak were tied. KG was already voting for novak- he could have just sat there and let it go to a coin flip- that’s how I would have played it, anyhow. A 50/50 shot at keeping both wolves alive versus one wolf sacrificing the other? The sacrifice seems way riskier to me, especially knowing that a lot of us aren’t going to clear him just because of that move- we’ve seen similar things before.

June 4, 2013 at 5:13 pm
Grey
So, Kg, your sudden certainty is a little jarring. You’ve seemed clean so far, but that’s a weird statement coming from your early half-committed suspicion of me.
Novak I hear what you’re saying, but you are SO eager to get the day over with by killing me. That is not a villager play.
Higs, you’re backing down after following Novak’s lead makes you look pretty suspicious. I’m still thinking these are the two top suspects for me today.
And to answer the accusation that I’m panicking and trying to put suspicion on everyone: The first thing I read this morning was that this was going to be a straightforward day where Grey gets killed. That’s a perfect scenario for a wolf. Not to mention that the reasoning behind it was so flimsy. I made it very clear that I wasn’t going to be around. I didn’t vote for DG because I didn’t see a reason to. Novak and Melissa looked the most wolfy to me, so I voted for Novak. I couldn’t keep up very well while I was at the gym and so be it. There are always people not around at the deadline. Using that as a reason to go after me is super flimsy, especially that everyone on here except the noobs know that I have kids and am almost always gone in the evenings. Novak knows that and Higgs knows that. That makes them look suspicious to me.
To follow up on the statement that my death is a perfect scenario for the wolf: If we don’t take a harder look at what’s happened so far, and take a more rational approach, we are going to fall into the trap that the village always falls into. The wolves find a villager target and put suspicion on them, and then create an argument centered around that kill that puts blame on other villagers. This way they look like they’re hunting wolves when in truth they are pitting villagers against villagers. I think that’s what’s happening here and I think either Novak or Higgs are orchestrating it, or one of the more silent players is the wolf and they are just sitting back and loving it.
June 4, 2013 at 5:44 pm
mbnovak
You frequently see wolf in me, so I’m not too worried about that. And I’m often willing to accommodate an earlier day – that’s not unusual for my villager game at all.
What I’m concerned about is that you aren’t engaging the argument that the other wolf wouldn’t have been on DG last night. There was more than enough cover for them to vote for me instead, especially when we got down to the 4-4 tie in overtime. So either they weren’t around last night or they were in on me or I’m the other wolf. I know I’m not a wolf, so I have to figure the other wolf has to be someone who wasn’t around or someone who was voting for me (it is also possible that someone like meat could be the wolf, since his vote was on “other” but… if he was a wolf, the better play would have been to just kill me).
That leaves you and Melissa as the best candidates.
We’re not playing a normal day 2 here… we have very very good info to go on from last night’s vote.
June 4, 2013 at 6:12 pm
Grey
I most definitely have engaged the argument re: voting last night. I wholeheartedly disagree that last night was telling. It was a night one vote, regardless of what you read into it. I still don’t see why it’s so obvious that DG was a wolf. He always plays that wolfy, whether he is or not. I feel like that argument is equivalent to results = causation. So he turned out to be a wolf. You’re taking that and making definitive arguments with it, and that is NOT something a villager does. I admire your focus but if you’re a villager than you are way off track.
You’re not listening very well to my statements, I feel, and that’s not like you. I feel pretty strongly that you’re the other wolf here, and I think that’s why you’re working so hard to keep the suspicion on me.
June 4, 2013 at 8:30 pm
mbnovak
I’m not saying it was obvious DG was a wolf last night. It wasn’t at all. I’m just saying that there was a very tight vote, and that at some point it was 4-4, and anyone who jumps off of DG and onto me kills a villager. The fact that it didn’t happen means the wolves are probably not in the group of people voting DG.

Vote- MelissaD
There are two good reasons for a wolf with a bunch of votes on them to not vote for someone else late in the day when there’s a big voting swing- either the wolf isn’t around, or the votes are swinging to the other wolf. I can’t say for sure that’s what happened yesterday, but between that and her reluctance to talk about The Rev’s prior werewolf/Mafia experience, something seems off. I’m willing to go with this for now.
June 4, 2013 at 6:16 pm
Grey
For what it’s worth, you’ve cleared yourself pretty well with your analysis and more rational take on the day and the voting last night.
I’m pretty sold on Novak. I didn’t like the way he played yesterday, and his eagerness to move the day forward with killing me push me toward the tipping point, and his set up here: https://spookymilk.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/werewolf-xxi-day-two/#comment-47606

I’m back home for a minute before I head to the gym / dinner. I’m less inclined to off the rev immediately, but seriously we haven’t heard a peep from him all day. We’ve allowed ourselves to be duped by the silent villager way too many times for me to ignore the silent play as a wolf strategy.
The cleanest looking players at the moment are Bhiggs and kg
Grey has constantly been on the defensive, but that my be because Novak has been riding him like the town bicycle.
Novak seems “helpful”, but all I see is him picking scabs. He’s on track to kill Melissa because her game is similar to the one where she was a wolf, but would also be cool killing grey. I don’t get a lot of substance from his posts.
Melissa hasn’t offered much in the way of her opinion of anyone else save to say that the rev is a trickster. Nothing to read makes forming an opinion of her game harder.
June 4, 2013 at 7:14 pm
Grey
Probably the most non-wolfy post of the game… which is helpful.
I’d be happier hearing more from the Rev and Melissa, but that aside I think Novak is a wolf. He’s not actively hunting for a wolf, he’s just trying to get people offed. He set me up last night and then went after me today while leaving the door open for Melissa and also setting up tomorrow ( as I posted earlier)
June 4, 2013 at 8:46 pm
mbnovak
Oh, but I am trying to hunt for a wolf. I’ve narrowed it down by process of elimination to you and Melissa, because of what I know about the DG vote last night (namely, that I’m a villager). I took a stab at you today, and you’ve parried it. Now reading Melissa’s post below, she seems like she’s trying to do this “look there’s a case against Novak, and there’s a case against the Rev, and you guys fill in the blanks…” thing. I see her as slightly more wolfy than you now, knowing full well I’m voting for one of you tonight, and if I get it wrong, the other tomorrow.

Novak wanted my suspicions, but I don’t think he’ll like it. I have two top contenders, and I am more conflicted on one than the other.
My contenders:
1. Novak — He’s throwing everybody off by saying that the second wolf wouldn’t go in on a DG vote. However, when I was a noob, and he and I and DG were wolves, they advised that putting a vote on another wolf can give you “wolf hunter cred” later on. In other words, I am not putting aside the possibility that the second wolf jumped on the DG bandwagon to throw everybody off. In our wolfy game, there were several times when we each voted for each other early in the day or at random moments, just to throw others off our path. It makes sense, too, if the wolf appears to be going down anyway. So I can see Novak doing that here. Novak also jumped on ME pretty quick this game, claiming I have a “wolfy” game despite not having a real comparison there. I felt like that was an easy way to immediately divert attention and to make an early accusation seem more logical.
2. The Rev — He seems wolfy, but I’m torn because he could also be the seer. Like I said, Meat’s argument about The Rev’s “God will point out the wolf to me” mumbo-jumbo did sound like one way of revealing he was a seer. At the same time, though, his votes seemed random. He seemingly voted for me out of annoyance that I voted for him (if I know him at all…which I like to think I do). He voted for DG last minute, but once again, there’s the possibility he saw him going down and decided to put in the Credible Wolf Hunter vote. I don’t know why he hasn’t said anything today, either, other than to keep himself out of the fray. I know he doesn’t have access to a computer while he works, but he does at break times and lunch time and is typically typing away on it.
If it’s not Novak or the Rev, I’m stumped. Everybody else has given me less to go on — despite Novak’s insistence on Grey. I don’t see the Grey implications right now. And I’m not just making up for not giving Colin a gold in the final PwtP round.
June 4, 2013 at 8:43 pm
mbnovak
I like this just fine. I’m not throwing anybody off by saying the second wolf wouldn’t got in on a DG vote – the logic is pretty obvious:
There was a tie vote between DG and myself, just one vote from a (locked-in) majority. I know I’m a villager. That means all it takes is for one of the other players to switch off of DG (or off of Rev, if it’s meat) to secure a village kill and protect a wolf. There’s only 2 wolves in the game, so losing one puts the wolves just a seer peek/good day of hunting away from losing. In games where there are more, sure you’ll go for the cred if it looks like a wolf is going down. But in these circumstances, if a wolf doesn’t have to go down, you make sure they don’t – especially when you won’t lose credibility because, you know… it’s already a tie vote.
Thus, since no one switched onto me when I had 4 votes I know that one of the wolves must have already been voting for me. That makes DG, Colin and Melissa. DG is dead. So it’s between the two of you.
After seeing your approach on this issue… yeah, I’m gonna say it’s more likely you than Colin.
June 4, 2013 at 9:10 pm
MelissaD
I don’t understand what “approach” you feel I’m using. I also don’t understand what’s “wolfy” about said approach. You keep saying I’m acting wolfy because I seem to be doing what I did in the last game, but you haven’t explained 1) what was “wolfy” about my last game, and 2) how what I’m doing now is similar. Saying my game is similar this time around is just a blanket statement. You’re utilizing the only thing you know about me as a crutch.
June 4, 2013 at 9:37 pm
mbnovak
Well yesterday I put together other things on you, like the fact that you didn’t give us info on the Rev. What was wolfy about your last game was that you were a wolf – I saw up close the way you play when you are a wolf. No one has seen your villager game, so either they are remarkably similar, and we’re all learning that for the first time or you’re playing similarly because you’re a wolf.

Playing in person is pretty great. We’ve played it live many times…including at our wedding reception. At that time, we had more than 20 people involved, which was a riot. Almost literally.
It’s also harder for people to get REALLY worked up when it’s live. You can see people’s faces and know when they’re not being intentionally mean or vindictive. The Interwebs make it harder to know if people are truly pissed off about what’s going on.

Grey surged to the top of my list with his immediate approval of my mostly weak ass assessment. He’s been pretty aggressive this game. Maybe I’m reading too much into that.
I’m not pleased with rev105 ‘s appearance and non explanation as the village gets hosed all the time by non-active wolves.
Melissa is still a pretty big question mark.
June 4, 2013 at 9:44 pm
mbnovak
I don’t see Rev’s votes last night working with a wolf play though. You would have jumped on me, I assume, if you were a wolf. Colin and Melissa (and DG) were the only 2 who couldn’t jump on me. Colin is at least engaging this argument (see below), though he’s looking at you too. Melissa hasn’t looked twice at Colin, from what I can tell. That seems odd, and, combined with the not helping the village understand Rev yesterday… she’s my top candidate.
June 4, 2013 at 9:52 pm
MelissaD
My decision whether or not to provide information on the Rev was 100% due to the weirdness of having my spouse play. I keep going back and forth on what’s “fair” information for me to provide, and what would be “unfair” because of my relationship with him. You guys aren’t privy to where he was today and what he was doing, for instance. I am. Is it a jerk move of me to wreck his potential game because I have insider info? Unless I thought he was blatantly lying or being a dick, I still can’t figure out what’s “fair” for me to include. For instance, he said he was in a really long meeting today. That’s, in fact, true. If he’d said that, and I knew he was hanging out at home all day playing Candy Crush and watching your conversation, that’d be different. I’d probably say something. Maybe. But he’d also not be stupid enough to do that because then he’d know I’d immediately peg him as a wolf. And then I would vote him wolf here and have a weird time trying to explain why I thought he was a wolf without feeling like I was “cheating” based on real-life observations.
Seriously, it’s a weird dual role.
Maybe Spooky, when he returns from Mount Olympus, or wherever he goes, can clarify if all’s fair in Werewolf or not.
June 4, 2013 at 9:45 pm
Grey
Your weak ass assessment is the least wolfy looking post of the game. Think what you want about it, but it is. I didn’t say anything about you being or not being wolfy, just that particular post was one of the first honest appearing assessments of the game.

I’m here. I read yesterday more fully. There were three at the end that didn’t vote for DG, Correct? Me, Melissa and Meat.
Meat didn’t have a vote in, and I can’t find anywhere that that is questioned except by Novak, and Meat just blew it off. Can you answer that, Meat? am I wrong? And up yours for the passive jab about posting on the phone. Mind you I was jogging on a treadmill when I made that post. And just to be clear Novak, it was an honest botch on the closing of the bold thing.

Make 7, up yours. Dude, just a little humor to lighten the mood. Yeah, the vote is easy to explain. I didn’t see any evidence that the village had a wolf between dg and Novak. My vote rested on the rev because he was hiding behind his character. Still not pleased that he didn’t participate. I felt that we were tossing up between two villagers and felt a coin toss would be fairer to both players.

My list is:

I feel like Colin’s tone has been pretty consistent with his villager games, especially in his latest round of engagements. Melissa seems to have picked a side in the “me vs. colin” debate, without considering that we could both be innocent. Plus the other stuff with her, detailed earlier. So she’s my #1, and I’ll leave the vote there for now.
June 4, 2013 at 9:51 pm
Grey
So, if I accept that it’s most likely that a wolf didn’t vote KG yesterday, then I have to believe that there is a wolf in Me Melissa or Meat. Of those three, I’d be most inclined to think it was me, but since I already know that I’m not a wolf, then I think that Melissa is slightly more wolfy than Meat. She’s in and out and more defensive and following than offensive and hunting.

I think I appear defensive because 1) I was in a training all day and couldn’t do much more than follow early in the day, and 2) I’ve pegged Novak, who was providing arguments before me due to the afore-mentioned training issues. I also pointed a finger at The Reverend, and I haven’t heard anything from him about that. He’s just floating along in silence…making me appear more defensive because my offense is not getting a response.
June 4, 2013 at 10:05 pm
Grey
Your last is a good point.
However, I’m going with the logic that the second wolf didn’t vote for DG, so that leaves you, me and meat. Of you and meat I’d lean toward you.
June 4, 2013 at 10:26 pm
MelissaD
Taking Novak’s logic as the basis, I understand your conclusion. His argument is logical. However, an argument can be both logical and incorrect. For now, it’s what he has to go on, and I understand that. We’re on day two. It’s not like we have a plethora of evidence. His argument also conveniently works for him because it takes him out of the equation.
If I were to go via his logic, that would leave me with you and Meat. Of the two of you, I would actually opt for Meat. Meat is less vocal, and he even bowed out of the final vote yesterday, giving him him leeway to make arguments in either direction. Which is a good move. No matter which way the argument turns, he can say he’s on the “villager” side of it because he did or did not vote for .
While I think Novak is wolfy, I might consider a Meat vote. But I also don’t want to seem to conveniently switch votes because Novak’s logic makes me look bad.
I will think on this.

I don’t think Melissa has been particularly wolfy. That bit about not telling us if the rev had played before is pretty ridiculous, she was giving him a chance to speak for himself. That’s fine.
I can’t say I have any great information that says it’s either one of them, but given what we know, I still think it’s one of them.
June 4, 2013 at 10:39 pm
Grey
Why not meat? If we’re using the logic that it had to be someone not on Dg last night why does it have to be Melissa or me?
And to speak to the other, I think the most helpful thing I can do today is make it clear that I’m a villager, hence my looser villager game.

I think meat is less likely because he wasn’t on either DG or myself, thus he could just have easily switched to me (like the DG voters) without too much suspicion, and saved DG. He – like everyone who voted for DG – had an opportunity to save DG by switching their vote to me when it was 4-4, but he passed it up, so he’s closer to the DG voters than the Matt voters.

Look, all signs are pointing to meat right now. He follows Novak’s logic (which may or may not be correct, but we’ll put that aside for now since everybody seems to be going with it). He left himself out of the critical vote yesterday evening, putting himself in a prime “plausible deniability” role. Up until this point, he’s been mostly unobtrusive and allowing the Grey/Novak or Novak/Me arguments to keep him out of the spotlight. And, as a form of “wolf hunting”, he is giving us an alternative list that is…well, the exact same list that has been posited thus far. If it’s coming down to Me, Grey, or Meat, I say go Meat.

The townspeople of Nirvana could taste victory. They had already managed to kill off history’s most powerful, deadly, and handsome werewolf the previous day, and the mayor promised them that only one wolf remained in their midst.
At some point during the day Lt. Daniels tackled Jester and refused to let him up until the village agreed to lynch him. They dragged their target to the mayor’s house to get the official sentencing out of the way, but were surprised to find Mayor Castleton not at home. Instead, brandishing the mayor’s last will and testament, Ellie Sue, now a zombie werewolf, declared that the Mayor Castleton had left her in charge of the town.
“Uh oh” Artemis reached for her bow.
It was too late, Ellie Sue freed Jester and the two wolves fell upon the villagers, eating their fill.
WOLVES WIN!
OK, fine. None of that happened. Ellie Sue, despite being probably the most effective and devastating werewolf this town had ever seen, has no power from beyond the grave. Jester was strung up, and as he died, grew fur, fangs, claws and a mustache. The wolves were all dead.
VILLAGERS WIN! (finally)

NOTES.
DAY ONE
*Our wolves are Daneeka’s Ghost and MelissaD. Well, of course they are. Novak is the seer, which should be real great for a natural mass of paranoia.
*bhiggum hasn’t shown up by midday of day one and he never responded last night. He said this week was good for him, so I sure hope that didn’t change.
*The opening hours have been pretty blah (more blah than usual), but Melissa seems to be slipping into the wolf trap of going quiet for hours but immediately responding when someone mentions her name.
*Novak’s first peek was at The Reverend, courtesy of random.org. He was happy with the fact that he got to see the role of the noob. I get that, but dude…you have got to check on Brooks.
*Reverend’s first post (ever, at the site): “Greetings my children,
I have been in the chapel, praying to our Lord savior to save us from the evil infecting our village. The Lord has promised to show me a sign that we must follow to root out the unbeliever that has brought the eye of Satan upon us.”
Subtle! Early impressions: as hilarious as this is, I now expect him to shoot up some lists of people to kill. At least Novak already knows he’s a good guy. Meanwhile, if he’s not lynched, the wolves may take a stab at him, thinking it’s a seer proclamation. Will his CdL debut involve him being eviscerated by his own wife? There’s precedent for that, as the Wreisners have taught us. Moments later, kg also comments on the glorious entrance.
*Perhaps spurred on by the apathy that a lack of posts brings, DG is openly trolling the post with “I am a wolf” rationales in voting and commentary. I love stupid stuff like this.
*Mostly through messing around, Melissa is, with two and a half hours to go, just one vote from a majority. I’m sure someone will pull away now that they see this, though she’s been wolfy enough that I’d probably put down the kill vote if I was in there. If she goes and Novak abandons random.org and looks at Brooks, this could be amazingly quick. …yep, kg pulled back pretty quickly.
*kg returns with an hour left, ready to vote Novak. Oh boy. Melissa, silent throughout most of this, jumps on immediately. Red flags, folks. At least ask her why it’s so easy for her to agree.
*Grey points out that Melissa was quick to agree, and then he votes with her. Oh well. Another disaster coming, folks. At least Novak can point out that the noob is a good guy on his way out. Then the new guy will be dead tonight and it’s 5-2, with nobody questioning Brooks. I’m less hopeful for the village all of a sudden.
*thereverendsmith is killing any chance the village had to get a wolf. He won’t stop playing the character. Sigh.
*Novak is all over Melissa. If he dies as the seer, at least they’ll look back and assume he knew.
*bhiggum thinks it’s strange that DG has so few comments. It is, I guess, but normally he has so many because he and I tangle on day one. Anyway, if bhiggum gets it right, it’s all good.
*DPWY returns and immediately throws our seer under the bus. He’s had some rough games lately, that old pirate…
*meat announces he’s leaving with ten minutes left. WHY?
*A crazy flurry at the end leaves us with a seer/wolf draw, with the other wolf right behind. Novak almost avoided this draw…
*Novak drops a “seeing” hint in a comment about Rev.
*kg OUT OF NOWHERE kills DG. Holy shit.
NIGHT ONE
*Novak’s peek is kg. I like it for the same reason Novak outlines: that’s a game-winning move, voting DG at the end, if kg is a wolf.
*Melissa kills DPWY. She doesn’t have much of a rationale and says it was an equally difficult chance of getting the seer. I know this is easy for me to say, but I think some wolves would have seen the seer in Novak. Would DG? We’ll ask him afterward. She did say she definitely wanted DG around to talk about the kill, and she took a lot of time with it.
DAY TWO
*Early swipes have the village narrowing it down mostly to Grey and Melissa. A couple of conspiracy theorists are throwing Novak out there, but that’s an early-Novak-level conspiracy there. meat is also being half-assedly bandied about. Only bhiggum doesn’t seem to at least have Melissa in his sights. It may not be a sweep, but with Novak having two interesting names cleared, the village is well ahead. I don’t know if Melissa is going to want to night-kill him, either, since she’ll probably assume that he can be used.
*kg is surprised he isn’t gaining more of a following, and emails me to tell me so. He comes to the same conclusion as Novak and I – that it’s a game-winning wolf move. Of course, I know that Novak peeked at him, which is a major reason nobody’s talking about kg in a negative light.
*Grey with the old “people who think I’m a wolf are obviously wolves” strategy. He typically puts things together, but not this early.
*Now Grey is being wrong so aggressively that it’ll probably come off looking villagery.
*Not that it’s a totally wolfy-looking thing to say, but Melissa’s “One down, one to go” is something I remember seeing once before and immediately thinking, correctly in the end, that a wolf was saying it. I don’t know what it is about that phrase…I guess it just sounds too phony for a villager to say.
*Grey insisting it’s Novak is pretty weird. Novak came off as such a clear villager last night that I probably would have night-killed him.
*bhiggum’s look back at Melissa nails it – she didn’t switch to DG to save herself. Very wolfy, in light of what happened.
*Melissa finally came back with the suspicion list, and it’s probably the last nail in the coffin. Again she’s going for the two people who already had the most suspicion cast on them that weren’t her. She does try to get in with Grey, but that’s probably too little.
*Quick revenge vote from Melissa to Novak after he votes for her.
*All this talk of live games makes me wish I could visit this summer.
*I get Melissa’s hesitation to answer whether Rev has played before or not, I guess, but I would have pounced on any information that was withheld like that. It’s easy to say because I knew she was a wolf all along, but I’d guess that she would have said something if she wasn’t, and she overthought it because she is and got needlessly coy.
*Grey names Melissa and meat, so Melissa starts saying she could support a meat vote.
*Sixteen months since the last villager win, and this was a sweep. Given the way the first day went down, there was a ton of information to go on that really put Melissa in a horrible spot. Getting a wolf like that and being able to break down the people who weren’t in on the vote is the best thing the village can hope for. Nicely played, village. Novak for MVP, but everyone, in the end, provided some good analysis (and those who initially didn’t were open-minded enough to see the right play when it was offered).

Under the bus: In my notes, I typically have a natural defense for the seer and get annoyed when people – particularly villagers – vote for the seer. I can’t push it out of my head.
On DG – the thing about rushes like that is that it robs me of my ability to make notes, because I have to read so many comments in such a small amount of time and I have to stay glued to the voting spreadsheet. I found it mystifying, but in the moment it’s hard to remember what I felt because it was such a blur. I too was initially surprised to go back and read that I hadn’t really said anything about it, but that’s because I was terrified of missing a vote or something.
June 5, 2013 at 11:55 am

Here’s what killed me this game:
1. My actual problem with determining what to do about my spouse. That wasn’t me being wolfy. I would’ve have done that as a villager, too. I couldn’t figure out what was appropriate!
2. My work schedule. You said I was being “wolfy” by disappearing for hours then showing up when my name was mentioned. That was purely coincidence. I showed up when I had a break at work to show up. I had a suspicion it wouldn’t work well for me, but it’s what I had to go with.
Which makes me wonder…for future Werewolf games, is it possible to make it something like a 5-10pm game? Most people here appear to work typical schedules and are more available in the evening. Otherwise, it seems to just offer fodder for accusing people. “That one was gone all day at their job! WOLF!”

I think it’s not as much of a problem with a bigger game. However, with you and the Rev and bhiggs (and me, for that matter), all being gone for long stretches on day one, it only left 4 other players to keep Novak from talking to himself.

June 5, 2013 at 11:58 am

It seemed a generally good move. Don’t want to reveal yourself too early. I would have eaten you immediately, had you declared yourself. This would have worked well for the wolves since you hadn’t peeked me. The seer wants to be killed later in the game, right?
As to Spooky’s comment about you obviously being a seer…I suffer, again, from not knowing people as well. I didn’t see any difference between how you acted as seer and how you were as a wolf. Or how you are in pretty much any interaction I’ve had with you.

If I used the word “obvious,” I shouldn’t have, but he dropped the exact same type of hints that I always planned on dropping if I was a seer again. If I was a villager I might not see them until later, but as a wolf I’d be searching for such hints.
